Advertising & Marketing
FREEZE STYLE AD
One of my favorite ad designs - the freedom I had when designing was a huge bonus (and I could look at that ice cream all day mhmm)
I went for a simplistic, modern design with plenty of circles to complement the circular shapes of rolled ice and the bowls. I used the teal and pink from the logo in the rest of the ad to keep the colors simple.
KNOBU AD
I originally wasn't sure how to combine the two images that the owner requested on the ad, but I went for a diagonal split of sorts to fit them both in the ad. I went with a olive and spring green combination to accentuate the natural aspect of this shop.
Designs & Infographics
College CONfidential graphic
I drew this graphic to accompany my editorial. Again, I broke out the square-shaped soft brush I've been experimenting with for a while. The colors are more or less analogous so they can blend together, but I also used shades of orange to add visual interest (they pop out at the viewer).
Social Media Popularity
For the Hastings issue, I drew little cubes of social media app icons that were arranged in a stack. While not technically challenging, I had fun by playing with colors and shadows. This style feels freer than using solid blocks of color, as I did previously.
Movie Review Sceenshot Study
I took a screenshot from the movie The Master that would accompany Sammy's review of Netflix movies. This was a fun break from designing abstract graphics, and was a great way to study the effects of sunlight and reflections.
State Gov Infographic
For a J2 article detailing state government and the similarities and differences between national and state gov. I decided to make it easier to read by visually representing the vast array of statistics. This made it more compelling to read.
Maya Portrait
I finally got to use that one soft brush! In other news, I drew a stylized portrait of a friend for her column. We chose a color palette together, and this one was rather unusual because I didn't sketch it out first; rather, I blocked in the shapes with the basic colors and went from there.
Fruits and Vegetables Design
I actually used a random color palette generator on this one, and modified the color slightly. This was a bit of a bold style change for me, and a little experiment. I thought that simple shapes of the fruits and vegetables would be too boring...
Behind the Scenes
I'm pretty elated that this actually ran in the Senior Issue! I thought it was important to inform readers of all that goes on behind the scenes to make an issue of Arlingtonian. I wanted them to understand the process and see how much work we put into it, from writing to conducting interviews, and issue planning to final layout.
